Scott Greenberg, CLU, ChFC, CFBS

Scott is an Investment Advisor Representative and holds Series 6, 63, and 65 licenses. He earned his Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU), Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC) and Certified Family Business Specialist (CFBS) designations from The American College, and is certified Trusts and Estates Practitioner (TEP). Scott has been awarded Top Insurance Advisor in the Washingtonian Magazine for the last 5 years.

His areas of retirement plan expertise include plan design strategy, management of participant and client enrollment, trustee communication, plan investments and asset allocation, and plan reviews and operations. As a partner, Scott directs plan design discussions, review, and overall plan health.

A native of California, Scott earned his undergraduate degree from the University of California, Irvine and his graduate degree from Georgetown University in Washington, DC. In November of 1985 he joined MassMutual Life Insurance Company.

In July 2001, Scott joined David Wexler and Keith Eig as a principal founder of Greenberg, Wexler & Eig, LLC. The M Member firm is known in the Washington, DC area for its expertise in personal wealth transfer planning, business succession planning, and retirement benefit plan design. Scott is responsible for the firm’s marketing efforts as well as oversees the Retirement Solutions division.

In 1997, Scott founded the Family Business Forum of Washington, DC at American University and served as its chairman in 1998. Scott has served on the Board of Directors for the Washington DC Life Underwriters (now DC AFIA) chapter as well as on several Association of Advanced Life Underwriters (AALU) committees. Scott also served as a founding member of The Greater Washington Foundation of Insurance and Financial Advisors (GWFIFA) Board. He is currently serving as Co-chair of the Programs Committee for the DC chapter of the Estate Planning Council, and is a member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP), an international organization that provides professional development and technical information for their members.

Scott is a frequent speaker and author and has conducted numerous seminars for the insurance, accounting, legal and medical communities, as well as authored articles on employee benefits, estate planning, business succession planning, and marketing for several trade publications. As a specialist in the advanced uses of life and disability insurance, Scott has been interviewed by Newsweek, the Wall Street Journal, Legal Times and was a regular contributor to the “Ask the Experts” column in the Washington Business Journal.

Scott devotes considerable time to charitable organizations in the Washington area including the National Capitol Poison Control Center and the American Heart Association where, in 1998, he founded and chaired Heart’s Delight, a four-day fundraiser in memory of a friend who died suddenly of a heart attack at age 40. Today, Heart’s Delight Wine Tasting and Auction is one of the most successful charity wine events on the east coast. Now in its sixteenth year, Heart’s has raised over $14,500,000 to fight heart disease and stroke. Scott is currently serving a two-year term on the American Heart Association’s Washington, DC Affiliate Board of Directors.

After spending six years as the commissioner of the Montgomery Youth Hockey Association, where all three of his sons played ice hockey through high school, Scott is now a happy spectator at Washington Capitals games. Twelve years ago, Scott converted his passion for wine and writing into a weekly column for the Examiner newspaper chain. His column, “The Vine Guy” was syndicated in several markets across the country. Today, he writes for The Tasting Panel magazine—a well-respected trade publication—and can be heard every Friday evening as the host of WTOP radio’s Wine of the Week.

In addition to collecting wine, Scott and his wife, Cindy, a radiation oncologist, share a passion for fly fishing, skiing, rescuing Labrador Retrievers and the Washington Capitals. They have three sons and reside in Potomac, MD.
